Sally's Apizza Welcome to a New Haven Tradition Sally's was established in 1938 by Salvatore Consiglio. Renown for thin crust pizza still baked today in the same coal-fired oven that has been in operation for over 60 years. Continuously operated since 1938, Sally's is one of the oldest family run pizzerias in the Northeast. Today Sal's wife Flo, daughter Ruth, son's Bob and Rick still maintain the family tradition. Sally's is located on historic Wooster Street in New Haven, CT. Wooster Street is often termed the "Little Italy" of New Haven. It is one of the cornerstone restaurants in the New Haven Pizza wars (which pizzeria is best). Sally’s has served pizza to many dignitaries, athletes and stars. Pictures and memorabilia from these visits line the walls. Notables include Frank Sinatra, Bill Clinton, Kathleen Turner, Don Rickles, Jimmy Durante and Gary Trudeau (look for the Doonesbury tribute to Sally's the next time you are there). Before you go - be prepared to wait. If you are in a rush, you might want to postpone your visit until you have time to devote to the experience. Waiting is part of the New Haven pizza tradition. You may have to stand in line to wait to be seated, and once seated you probably will wait for your pizza, but the wait is worth it. Each pie is individually hand-made, and carefully baked in our coal-fired oven. Sally's only serves pizza, soda and beer! Take out is available. There might be a wait for take out orders too. Sorry no credit cards accepted!
